To start the new year we are celebrating filmmakers who inspire us. Both of us have roots in theatre and a deep love of musicals so we thought we would start with Richard LaGravenese. At the 2014 Austin Film Festival we had the honor of seeing Richard LaGraveneses amazing version of The Last Five Years. It is probably the best movie version of a musical we have ever seen. It stayed true to the way the musical was written, was beautifully shot, perfectly cast and just a joy to watch. It was simple and elegant. We laughed and cried. It is one of those movies you walk away from with a full heart and giddiness about what a good movie does to you.
