To steal from the greatest band ever, well in my mind, Guns N Roses; “You wanted the best…well, they didn’t f&#kin’ show. So this is what you get…” from McKees Rocks Pennsylvania, Dead f*#kin’ Horse Cantina! For over a year we planned to put together something that had more VIBE than aesthetics. We wanted to put something together that squashed the old cliché, “With food, presentation is everything” by making food so tasty ya didn’t care if it came in a bag…and some does at our place, “Walking Taco” anyone? We wanted to put together beer and drink specials that you won’t get in every music club in Pittsburgh. I mean does an $8 plus Jager taste better cuz of all the memorabilia or blinky lights at other places, as opposed to a $4 or $5 shot? Highly doubt it. If you’ve ever been to the famed “Sunset Strip” back in the 80’s heyday or to Max’s Kansas City, CBGB’s or some of the historic music venues of the 70’s it was more about the MUSIC and the VIBE. Well, that’s us…quality before all else. The Dead Horse is the place for you the FAN to be REAL and you the BANDS to play your asses off. No need to front or put on airs, just a place where you can cut loose and enjoy a quality good time without having to remortgage your house. You may have noticed a SLIGHT change in our tag line, “The House That Pittsburgh Music Built” to “The House Built FOR Pittsburgh Music.” This is ALL OF OUR house, this fight to make The DH a reality was for ALL of US. A new TRADITION in FOOD, MUSIC and DRINK! We kind of pigeonholed ourselves when we were branding the concept with being a “heavy metal” bar with some 80’s hair bands. We were always about ALL of the music, but, without a liquor license and a real advertising budget, we did what we had to. Now we’ve put together a NICE schedule of MUSIC and NIGHTLY ENTERTAINMENT for EVERYONE. From Southern Rock to Country; from Blues to Jazz; from Alt Rock to Heavy Metal and everything else in between. Drew and I are excited about the QUALITY of entertainment we’ve booked through July. If you look at our schedule, you’ll see there’s blues, rock, metal, county, classic rock, 80’s dance/pop, tribute bands, etc. A lil something for everyone. Even our National Acts are going from 80’s to 90’s back to the 70’s with PAT TRAVERS! Wednesdays: COMEDY NITE hosted by “SOLOMON” who is bringing in some of Pittsburgh’s’ FUNNIEST comics! NO COVER (unless noted with NATIONAL COMEDIAN)…50 CENT WING NITE. “One taste of our wings and you’ll wanna lick EVERYBODY’S FINGERS!” Thursdays: Band Audition & 761 Records SHOWCASE NITE-NO COVER…$2 SLIDER SPECIALS! Friday and Saturdays: LIVE BANDS (check our schedule) Sundays: our BREAKFAST begins at 8 am to 2 pm. We’ll be bringing in some jazz and blues musicians to entertain. AND we’ll be having fun pairing some good mixed drinks (after 9 am) with food. Sundays we’ll also be doing SPECIAL shows throughout each month. NOW… To answer some BAND questions: HOW do you book a show at The Dead Horse? Simple…we’ve made it a point to SEE each and every band we’ve booked. Here is the deal, we’re new and you’re new to OUR crowd so we feel we’ve taken the FAIREST approach for everyone: * 100% of the door (usually $5.00 cover charge) goes to the band. With NO CHARGE for SOUND, LIGHTS, or SOUND ENGINEER. * Every 25 patrons, you get a $50 bonus. * If you draw 50 paid, you get 5% of the bar receipts as ANOTHER bonus * You have access to the green room with some “BUDWEISER PRODUCT” and we’ll feed ya some grub. What we expect from YOU: 1. PROFESSIONALISM * You are responsible for your own openers and time schedules. We start bands at 8:30 to 9:00 pm at the latest and go till 12:30 or 1 am. * Send us your logo and your openers logo for flyers * Make sure you plan on loading in no later than 6:30 for sound check to immediately follow. * IF you have more than 1 opener, try to at least share a drum kit for easy and less damaging change over. * Keep the backstage area free of all your friends. ALSO if you have a guest list of people, they will NOT count to the head count of any bonus. 2. PROMOTION. Though we may be a less “marquis” type venue as others in the area, we’re building a fan base just as your band once did. This is a TEAM, we BOTH need to promote your show. 3. Treat our equipment such as mics, etc as if they were your own. It’s easy enough to break a drum mic without even trying. You wouldn’t want someone breaking your equipment, so please treat ours the same. 4. ADVANCE YOUR SHOW a MINIMUM 2 days prior to your scheduled appearance. Of course this is our game “plan,” that doesn’t necessarily mean it all written in stone forever. For now we’re going to give it a run and YOUR FEEDBACK will dictate the changes we need to make. We sincerely believe we offer the most bang for your buck in terms of entertainment, food, and drink. All of our foods are homemade and occasionally we’ll be in the “kitchen-lab” concocting some insanity and will bring it out free of charge to get your feedback. Throughout the year, you’ll see we’re on board trying to raise money for some charities that we believe in and we’ll try pulling YOU into the fun too. LIKE..the 2014 POLAR PLUNGE for SPECIAL OLYMPICS!! For the past 2 years Drew and I made the icy plunge and have tripled our team. This year, the HORSE wants YOU to come in and have some fun WITH US!
