To stop FGM, we train female circumcisers to become traditional birth assistants, so they can make a living without having to continue their work as circumcisers. In this film, 10 female circumcisers from the rural areas in Galguduud have attended a 3-month course in Abudwak, and have graduated on 1 March 2014. Their graduation is attended by the local community elders, and organised by KARAMA, our implementing partner in Somalia. The ceremony takes place at HIRDAs school in Abudwak. Small detail: the trees they are sitting under, are mango trees we have planted, so students can enjoy some shade and a healthy snack between classes (if it is the right season :)
