To tailgate someone takes a mental focus that is irrational and unsteady. Rather than doing this, allow the brain to go through a puzzle; Attempt to stay three car distances away from the driver in front of you, but remain at the same distance and speed as that driver. Tailgating someone requires no perceptional depth. The true test of a skilled driver is one who can remain steady behind another car, and within the duration of their travel, keep the same distance - without ever getting too close. Should both you and that driver arrive to a party, the one in front will arrive maybe seconds ahead of you. Those few seconds represent the marginal exchange of value you give in exchange for a higher assurance of continuing your safety.
