To the DTI Acting Deputy Director General – Broadening Participation – SME Thank you for taking time out from your busy schedule to meet with Daniel and me and talk about our favorite subjects SME, DTI and SASMEF. Congratulations on the DTI funded program at CPUT about which you told us, and which will have a good impact on youth and the workplace. If we could assist in any way, SASMEF would oblige. On the SME-DTI-SASMEF terrain, I am pleased that we were able to unblock any misunderstanding in communication and other unintended perceptions and I graciously accept your assurances in this regard. I am hope that you are satisfied that SASMEF has SME at the centre of all endeavors and that SASMEF regards the DTI as one of the primary partners. May I remind you that SASMEF says to all: One voice for SME, One agenda SME (no side shows) and one way for SME is partnership. SASMEF is founded on the following understanding: SME’s are the expression of free initiative, social inclusion and citizenship. Along these lines SME’s directly and indirectly influences the life of entrepreneurs, associates, employees, suppliers, family members and the entire social chain. SME’s are the democratization of opportunity. Given the above, the SASMEF vision, resonates with the DTI - Broadening Participation, and the NDP; it follows that SASMEF and the DTI have common goals and therefore we should be working together in a strong and determined based on the principle of private –public partnerships. In that context, I thank for you sharing with us your concerns and constraints from the department perspective. Appreciation of these organizational and ideological constraints, it is all the more imperative the private-public partnership should be strengthened. Here is again SASMEF offers a hand of cooperation and collaboration to achieve our common goals of broadening participation via the SME sector. Recently a commentator on government and private sector relations, observed of SASMEF that it is “the most networked platform for SME” and another said SASMEF is potentially “an economic empowerment policy partner”. You have given us at SASMEF confidence to proceed in the work of SME and we hope that your colleagues at the DTI will empowered by the SASMEF and of friendship and support so that together we may instruments of creating the environment conducive to job creation and poverty alleviation. Another congratulations to the DTI: I noticed only to day the NEW inclusion of “SME link” on your DTI home page. SASMEF says such amplification on your title page gives significance to the DTI support for SME. Thank you.
