To the Friends and Co-Workers of Alex Duva, As most of you - TopicsExpress

To the Friends and Co-Workers of Alex Duva, As most of you know, on June 27, 2014 I announced the cancellation of the memorial service for Alex on the 29th of June. I informed you of the potential for the unstable/unsafe environment and that I would be working with the fund raising organizer to return your money. The unstable/unsafe environment was due to a small group of individuals who were determined to drag Alex’s name through the mud during the memorial service in an attempt to make themselves feel better for actions that occurred over 20 years ago. It got to the point where these individuals were making threats against the memorial organizers and the funeral home. Rather than provide a forum for their ridiculous and juvenile antics, I called off the service and requested a refund from the funeral home. Since that announcement on June 27th, many of you have contacted me asking if something else could be done with the left over donation money as there were hints that any left over money would be donated to a worthy cause in Alex’s name. I am happy to report that there is in fact, a great organization who can not only put the left over money to good use, they have made it a point to ensure that the recipients of this money will know exactly where it came from and who it is in honor of. That being said, not everyone responded to my cancellation announcement so I am reaching out to all of you for the next two weeks on the proposed usage of the left over money from fund raising. If, after reading about this opportunity, you still desire to have your donated money returned, just send me a private Facebook (FB) message and I will coordinate returning your money. On July 31, 2014, I will transfer any remaining funds to “Save 1 CPR.” With our donated funds, Save 1 CPR will provide CPR/Advanced Life Support/First Aid training to 52 people in the Medical First Responder (MFR) program. The normal cost for this training is $60 but the Save 1 CPR organization offers the class for only $35 to EMS, Fire, Police and Military (first responders). This training is required for MFRs attempting to get EMS certified. We decided to go with Save 1 CPR for two reasons: 1) Our donation helps out many (52 Medical First Responders-MFRs) 2) By specifying that our donation go to MFRs only, we are targeting motivated people who are aspiring to be in the EMS or medical professions. Oh yeah, and the Save 1 CPR CEO Amanda Zimmerman will be handing out a BIO on Alex to each person who benefits from our contribution (explaining his EMS/Paramedic background and the purpose of the scholarship). This announcement will also be posted on the Miles For Medics FB page. I encourage all of you (Alex’s friends and co-workers) to share this announcement on their FB page every few days (doing this keeps it at the top of your newsfeed) to get the word out as far as possible. Again, I am reaching out to all of you for the next two weeks on the proposed usage of the left over money from fund raising. If, after reading about this opportunity, you still desire to have your donated money returned, just send me a private Facebook message and I will coordinate returning your money. On July 31, 2014, I will transfer any remaining funds to “Save 1 CPR.” Thanks! Hal
