To the Teachers out there - from a parents view.... From that first day that I walk into your classroom I see how much time and effort you have already put into the coming year and you havent even started classes yet - probably know hardly any of who you will be teaching!!! I see my childs name in various places around - like the name tag where her bag will go, her name on the tub where she will keep her books, with a little butterfly picture added to make it pretty - oh and my favourite! - all the names and dates on the Birthday Poster... Love it! You smile and welcome us - we introduce ourselves and your happy/friendly personality instantly makes my child (and me!!) feel at ease. You see - first days are hard for mums as well!!..lol During the year I hear snippets of your life over afternoon tea at home - in between the excitement of something new they have learnt that day, they add a funny story about your dog, your cat, - (even your husband!), a recent holiday that you have shared with your class... Many times through the year your name is mentioned with a smile - something they see while out and about reminds them of you - your favourite animal, favourite colour, a favourite hobby of yours. I grab 5 minutes of your time here and there - just to see how my child is going - and enjoy the one on one chats of parent/teacher nights.. So, at the end of the year when you read your class register for the last time, the last bell has gone for the year and the last hand shake, last high five, the last hug has been given and you close your classroom door for the last time and all is quiet, be assured that a small part of you will forever remain in the hearts and minds of those children you were lucky enough to have in your class.. And they were lucky enough to have you as a teacher. You made a difference. You are very much appreciated - by the parents too :-D
