To the Volunteers of Operation Shoebox, I just wanted to take a few minutes out of our day here to express our deepest and most sincere thanks for the thoughtful care packages which we received over the last few days. From the delicious treats to all the hygiene products; the items which you all took the time to send our way were a hit with our Airmen. As just about any service member will tell you, mail call is one of the best times of the day! Despite all the advances in technology which are afforded to us here, nothing can compare to the personal touch of a care package. So needless to say, the faces lit up here at the squadron like it was Christmas morning upon receiving our packages. I can speak from experience as I too joined in the fun of seeing what was in our bags, and enjoyed our brief respite from life in Afghanistan. However, we did have a few extra packages which arrived at our squadron. Fortunately in our line of work we are blessed with the opportunity to interact and work with our sister services. I can promise you that those additional packages found some most eager recipients and to a person they all wanted me to pass along there thanks. I know that several members of our squadron have commented on how awestruck they are at all of your caring and generosity, and I can ensure you that we will always be indebted to all the volunteers back home and especially those of you at Operation Shoebox who continue to provide us with the comforts and fond memories of our homeland!
