To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ 1 Corinthians 1:2 Can we focus on the word sanctified for just a moment? That word means set apart. We have been set apart in Christ Jesus, for and to the glory of God. A lot of times Christians get a little confused about being separate and start isolating themselves from anything that isnt labeled Christian, whether it is literature, music, movies or people. They take pride in the fact that they dont know anything about pop culture and that their circle of friends only includes other Christians. Please dont misunderstand, there is certainly wisdom in avoiding certain things, especially if you know that you have a propensity to sin when exposed to those things. But an amazing thing happens when we make just a small alteration to the way we think about separation. Try this, stop thinking... separated from what and start thinking separated for whom. When we start living with our eyes focused on whose we are, instead of what we avoid our lives open up to the fact that there is a big world out there that needs to hear the message of Gods grace. We dont influence the culture by avoiding it. The Pharisees separated themselves and refused to touch the culture. Jesus, on the other hand dined with sinners.
