To the good folks who feel that we are bound by original sins or that some great human shortcoming and cause of selfishness, greed, and destructiveness is carried in our genes, or inherent in our species: There are a myriad extant examples of healthy indigenous human cultures which have lived within the carrying capacity of their ecology for hundreds of generations, using traditions that emphasize relationships of power with instead of power over. I believe that we do not improve anything when assign blame for the collective and individual human behaviors produced by a single, globally-dominant, industrial-corporate-military monoculture that manifests nearly every relationship as power over. I believe we can each transform power over into power with in our smallest decisions, every day. Every mind -- each an atom of a culture -- that transforms itself and then ripples that change outward into the culture improves the odds of our human species making it through this increasingly dire present moment.
