To the many Facebook friends we share and to all who knew Roger - TopicsExpress

To the many Facebook friends we share and to all who knew Roger Mathews I must be the bearer of bad news. Roger passed yesterday, Dec. 25th 2014. I was fortunate enough to have had him as my closest and dearest friend for 27 years. Most everyone who knew Roger was aware he was with us for the last 12 years as a gift of the generous act of someone checking that box to be a organ donor. Roger became patient #110 at ST Francis Cardiac Unit on Oct. 8th 2002. That selfless gift that some soul left behind gave all of us close to Roger 12 years and 78 more days wih him. It gave him time to see his son Ryan Mathews grow up, gradute high school, and become the fine young man that Roger was so proud of. Never a day went by as I talked to Roger was there ever a day he did not tell me of Ryans latest accomplishments. It allowed him to be reunited with his daughter Christina Renea, and time to meet his 3 grandchildren. Although his time with them was short he spoke of them often. It allowed him time to find and rekindle a romance with Brenda and them to finally become husband and wife. A lady he loved dearly. One person that really got Roger and took him as he was, much to her reward despite this grievious time. His mother Connie Mathews, father Roger Carl Mathews, sister Marsha and sister Angie survive him, along with a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews and a list of others I will never be able to remember all names of relatives, and friends all whose lives are permanently brightened by having known him. I have never known a man able to see infinate goodness in people and any situation such as he did. A sense of humor and repertoire of one-liners that would fill several volumes of encyclopedias. If he didnt have a funny twisted up nickname for you then he had just met you. His passions included his family, children, music of all types, both playing and listening, and fishing. Even after he was no longer able to walk the banks casting a line he loved to go sit in his truck and watch his son Ryan carry the torch for fishing on so expertly. Being an only child, Roger was as close to a brother as I have ever had. I just want to encourage all who read this to check that little box and become an organ donor, it is the greatest gift you can ever give and it is infinate how many lives that gift touches! Roger we love and miss you but are left with treasure trove of some of the best memories that will ever fill our heads. Rest in peace my friend, when I pass this world I hope you are the first to great me to show me the ropes on the otherside
