To the parent of the child being bullied in school, I feel your pain. My child was 13 last Christmas when when he/she took 240 pills and tried to kill him/herself due to bullying he/she was facing at school. It was the worst thing that I have ever been through in my entire life, watching her suffer so badly both physically and emotionally. I tried being nice, I tried reasoning, I tried being a down right cunt... nothing worked. The final straw was the day the principal told me that he couldnt FORCE them to like my child. No, he couldnt but he sure as hell could have forced them to leave him/her alone. My child did nothing to provoke the bullying, he/she just didnt fit in. My child is now in a program with only a few other children in another building that is not a school district building. It is a hard program to get in, but if you push for it Im sure you could make it happen. There they not only work on school work, they work on the whole child ie. self esteem building etc. My child has flourished in this environment and is now learning that he/she has a voice and that his/her feelings matter. In closing I would just like to say that this was a decision we had to make when the bullying got to be so much that my child couldnt take it anymore. It is by all means a personal decision but I do know they do offer the alternative education program for the high school aged group as well as the Jr. High program my child is in.
