To the seasoned Fractivist, the Halliburton loophole is nothing - TopicsExpress

To the seasoned Fractivist, the Halliburton loophole is nothing new, but 10 to 15 years on, the trade secret is just as disturbing to us now as it is to the newcomers reading about this loophole for the first time. Only in America. UK regulations are much tighter. I hear some people say. WRONG WRONG WRONG. The UK frackers do not have a loophole similar to the one the US frackers enjoy, so Cameron is creating one by way of the infrastructure bill. UK to allow fracking companies to use any substance under homes businessgreen/bg/news/2375445/uk-to-allow-fracking-companies-to-use-any-substance-under-homes As for regulations propaganda that our regs are adequate and strict enough,..... WRONG There ARE no regulations that relate to onshore unconventional oil and gas exploitation along with the use of Hydraulic Fracturing. The onshore regs are exactly the same as the offshore regs and they only apply to conventional oil and gas exploitation. Besides, being an ex North Sea drill crew worker, I can tell you that the industry is pretty much self regulated. Here is a perfect example of how the industry is left to It`s own devices. Cuadrilla has been warned by ministers over its performance as a licensee at one of its Lancashire sites. It failed to recognise the significance of damage to a gas fracking well in 2011 and did not report it to government officials for six months, leading to a stern reprimand by the energy minister, papers released under the Freedom of Information Act show. theguardian/environment/2013/mar/13/fracking-cuadrilla-halts-operations-lancashire If there was strict and adequate regulation in the UK, this would never have happened. And if the UK had no problems with strict regs, why would Cameron block the EU legally binding environmental regulations?? David Cameron has led intense lobbying against the proposals, arguing that existing rules are strict enough to keep fracking safe and that new rules would delay investment and increase costs. theguardian/environment/2014/jan/14/uk-defeats-european-bid-fracking-regulations WHY would Cameron do that?? I`ll tell you why. It`s because this government is the most corrupt in British political history. Behind every picture lies a story – statistical reality versus PR-hype within the political project of unconventional gas in Britain fraw.org.uk/mei/musings/2013/20130725-behind_every_picture_lies_a_story.html If all the above reading was not bad enough to get you extremely worried about the way things are going in the UK due to this government, consider the fact that the UK could meet much of It`s energy needs by 2030 with renewable energy. theguardian/big-energy-debate/uk-renewables-2030-bold-future-energy So after reading all of the above, I hope that you would agree with me that it is not a lack of political will or lack of money to subsidies renewable energy sources, It`s more a case of this governments deliberate stifling of the renewable energy sector. theguardian/environment/2014/jul/24/uk-renewable-energy-subsidies-capped-at-200m-a-year £200 million a year CAPPED for renewable energy and £2.6 BILLION for fossil fuels?????? theguardian/environment/2013/nov/07/fossil-fuel-subsidies-green-energy The money IS there. It`s just being sent in the wrong direction. So why is it so important that we move to cleaner and safer renewable energy? Well consider this. UK air pollution causes 50,000 early deaths a year theguardian/environment/2010/mar/22/air-pollution-deaths The use and impact of fossil fuels bbc.co.uk/learningzone/clips/the-use-and-impact-of-fossil-fuels/4413.html But there is not just a huge death toll as a result of pollutants, people are dying because they cannot pay their rip off energy bills. Age UK describes 30,000 excess winter deaths as shameful and urges government action on energy bills theguardian/environment/2014/oct/21/us-fossil-fuel-obama-climate-change-energy-heat If we allow full scale exploitation of unconventional oil and gas in the UK, things will most definitely get worse. theguardian/environment/2014/oct/21/us-fossil-fuel-obama-climate-change-energy-heat Enjoy your Sunday reading folks. If this is not enough to swing newcomers into action, I don`t know what will.
