To the technological naysayers, be careful what you say is impossible: Dont forget that just 10 years ago there were NO smart phones at all, the technology didnt exist...and then poof, hundreds of millions world wide. 10 years ago there was no graphene...now its being used to build everything from super solar cells to super capacitors. 10 years ago...the best walking robots were impressive as far as active calculation was concerned (Azimo) but then Boston Dynamics started showing what its working on in the lab (BigDog, LittleDog, Petman, Atlas) and every thing changed. 10 years ago we barely knew how the brain was self connected now thanks to fMRI we know what regions connect to initiate consciousness in humans, we know how our brains regulate attention. 10 years ago we had just sequenced a genome set at a cost of a billion dollars and 10 years of work...today we can sequence a single humans genome for about 1,000 dollars and in a few days. 10 years ago we had to study every disease either in some model organism or some complicated lab setting on unique tissues....now we have iPSC, we can transform any cell type to any other cell type at will. 3 years ago we couldnt change a living organisms genes without killing it now we have TALENS making what was impossible in Blade Runner (fictional 2019) REAL in 2011. 10 years ago mind reading was a fantasy, now we have mind controlled robots, robot prosthetic arms, we can literally turn dreams into images (crude for now but they will get better) and we can transfer mental thoughts from one mind to the next (recent rat study)!! 10 years ago we had a few dozen planet candidates around other stars, now we have thousands and thousands more being discovered by Kepler satellite every few months. In the last 10 years alone weve made advances of scale that would have been spread out over decades just 50 years ago...yet hear there are....and thats just the last 10 years.
