To the west of the corn field was an elementary school. Though small and outdated, it was still in use and served as a great local recreation area. A softball field, swing sets, and a large old merry-go-round in the playground would give us many hours of pleasure over the years to come. To the west of our house on a corner lot, was a small house facing west, with a small shed and garage. On the north side of the house was a large lawn with a rusty old pump resting on a shallow well centered in the middle of the yard. The little white house was rented out from time to time to small local families, but most of the time sat empty. To the south of this house was an empty lot that was sandwiched between this corner lot house and a small yellow house whose lot bordered our backyard. A middle aged couple with two small children would be the occupants of this house for years to come. This was our new town, a small area located on the bluff overlooking the north end of the city. The adventures of this area are yet to come.
