To this day, I still have to educate people on the definition of koha, in this present age the majority relate it to a gold coin, when it comes to the maori language there is always more than one meaning, sometimes many depending on the context it is used. So in this realm, it defines as gift which broken down is to give or take unconditionally. Today I was challenged on the use of Rangatira as a work description for The Koha Shed - Cannons Creek. Again it is all in context, to be honest most see this word as Chief and if thats what I want to call myself, then so be it LOL. But this is not the case, an old soul once told me that the word derives from a person who weaves the people (usually through whakapapa) so in this context I am weaving people on a daily basis to help themselves and above all each other. This kaupapa is so much bigger then a few individuals. It is way bigger then myself. And that is how it should be. This kaupapa only works because of a tribe of people, who are on the same page, making a difference, personally and collectively and that in its raw essence is a VERY BEAUTIFUL thing. And funny enough Porirua people do this more naturally then any other suburb in Aotearoa...why? not sure, but can you imagine the world following suit? All you have to be is Human, and like to give or take unconditionally, its that simple, maybe thats our calling...this simple gesture might just shake the stigma that taints our awesome young city! #THINKBIG #LABELSMABLE #WEGOTTHIS
