To those familiar with the DZ here at Dillingham Airfield, the building known as Aloha Skydivers was demolished today. Much of the original material used in the construction of the building was salvaged from buildings being demolished on Spencer Street on Punchbowl. Frank Hinshaw, DZO at Skydive Hawaii, obtained permission from the propertys landlord, Blackfield Hawaii and salvaged the Aloha buildings sliding door and window, the original siding and lanai decking. Cobalt glass from one houses bathroom was cut to fit over the sliding door. Joe Wolfgruber laid the tile floor. Ken Newkumet oversaw the construction. The building was saved just a few years ago, but it could not escape the march of progress.
