To those of you who might not view the atrocities that have - TopicsExpress

To those of you who might not view the atrocities that have occurred in #Ferguson as a race issue, I encourage you to consider why these occurrences have brought about so much controversy in the first place. What does this say about how a large percentage of black America feels regarding how they are treated by authority, particularly the police? I believe that civilian reactions to the case aid to the idea that it is our duty as Americans to look deeper into the underlying issue at hand: an enormous and valuable portion of our society is NOT content with the pressures they face in daily life pertaining to the color of their skin. As much as we like to present ourselves as an accepting and progressive nation, are we truly following the core ideologies of this country by ignoring blatant signs of oppression? When viewing the Michael Brown case as separate from the anger and sadness being expressed outside of the court room, the Grand Jurys final decision may be warranted. However, the case is not and should not be separated from those who are directly affected by its outcome, many of them the protestors who have sacrificed over 100 days in the fight for justice. I invite you all to open yourselves to what the public is begging you to see. Is it right to continue ignoring the voices of those who are willing to risk their lives to be heard? #BlackLivesMatter
