To those whispering.. . . . I make no secret of the fact that we, as a family, are exploring alternative education for our children. . . I believe if you are not happy with something, quit moaning and start doing. I have not been happy with the education my children have been receiving for some time and my priority is raising healthy and happy kids who are free to learn at a pace that fits them. . . . If you feel the need to go away and conjure up ideas of my children being isolated, wearing second hand clothes and enjoying a vegan diet while learning nothing, get a bloody grip and go and expand what you know.. . . . To those who like me (and there are many who are too afraid to break what is apparently normal and right that have already been in touch) that want their children to have the opportunity to learn in a healthy setting, with your input being respected and heard, where all the things important to you and your child are acknowledged... then please do not be afraid to do something different. . . . “If you do what youve always done, youll get what youve always gotten. ” . . . There are no current groups on Facebook for those in the East Grinstead area who wish to explore home education AND perhaps coming together to create an Alternative Education - A Health & Happiness led education... please contact me. . . Lets get this straight - I am not talking about a whacky free approach where kids learn what they want, when they want. Do not confuse freedom with lack of boundaries or structure. I will say it proudly, i have intelligent and hungry for knowledge children, one of whom has read over 55 books this summer alone, yes you read right. . You only know what you know, until you begin to explore... , Do you know how much free resources are available? , Do you know how many sports your child could take part in during term time at a heavily reduced rate? , Do you know you get access to heavily subsidised and free membership to places like the National Trust as a Home Educator? . Do you know that IF just TEN families came together in the East Grinstead area we could hire our own teacher for just £3-4000 a YEAR per family? . Do you know that something that may take 3-4 hours to teach in class, can be taught in a tenth of that time? . Do you know that much of what is taught at Primary school can be taught with active learning ie going out and DOING not just sitting on a floor cross legged and silent and listening? . Do you know that I have already secured a project to have access for gardening and nature projects - provided by the council? . Do you know how advanced many kids become once home schooled, dedicated learning speeds up most children, giving those who are struggling or being told their education just isnt their thing and those who are gifted and desire more that its not how the system works a CHANCE TO FULFILL THEIR POTENTIAL . Please do not be afraid to challenge what you know, what you think we are supposed to do... . Anyone interested in taking that leap of faith - you do not need to be a stay at home parent, you do not need to be wealthy - these are just mirages of obstacles - all you need is a open mind and a child who of course is open too . . .
