To those who have messaged me and expressed the difficulties theyve experienced with their families, particularly their parents, during and following their deconversion, I want to say this to you: I have been there. My parents pretend as though I dont exist. They refuse to recognize my son, their grandchild, because hes guilty by association to me. Multiple family members refuse to acknowledge my existence. Why? Because Im an atheist. And Im not even an in your face atheist. The abandonment by my parents and family was one of the primary precipitating factors for me starting this page. Last Christmas Eve I sat at my computer with tears rolling down my face as I typed a post to express my pain. I literally felt broken inside. At the time there was only ~10 people on my page, but one of them sent me a simple message. Her message has consoled me MANY days and nights...through a lot of grief and pain. For those of you whove contacted me and expressed similar situations, Ill share the message with you. Here: Your parents dont love you unconditionally. Thats their problem. Your parents refuse to recognize the truth. That too is their problem. You have examined the evidence and followed it. Youve clearly demonstrated that your moral compass points much farther north than that of your parents. You absolutely can NOT abandon what you know to be the truth just so that your parents can feel better about believing a lie. Stand strong and know this entire community supports you.
