To those who think Chinese and Japanese are the same: They belong to different language families (Chinese->Sino-Tibetan language family; Japanese->Japonic language family). What they have in common is that Japanese writing system is a combination of Kana and Chinese characters, and Kana is originally derived from Chinese characters. Thats it. They have completely different pronunciation and grammar systems. I love both of them though... I love Chinese characters (pictographs/ideographs/phono-semantic, etc.) and Japanese grammar, which is complicated but interesting... And both ancient Chinese and Japanese poetry such as 詩/辭 or 和歌/俳句 are sooooo attractive!!
