To truly repent, Jesus must increas in our lives. As we totally surrender our lives to Christ, only then will increase. Without Christ increasing in our lives, we will never have the power to decrease. Many Christians attempt to decrease (repent) of the "old self," but do not have the power to do so because they never allow Jesus to increase in their lives. When a Christian decides to sow his life to more prayer and Bible-reading and less to television and entertainment, he will then have the power to repent, because Jesus is increasing as we sow to the spiritual.
