To whom it may concern, Dearest friends, peers, and fellow businessmen and women. As many of you know my son Daniel, has been serving our great nation in the Army for almost two years now. He has sacrificed many things in his life, including his time with friends and family, early morning hours, his safety while jumping from airplanes and while being deployed, as well as the mental and physical wear and tear on his body and mind. He is not the first person to volunteer to serve our country, nor will he be the last, however he did enlist after earning a Bachelors Degree from Arizona State University, and living a comfortable life working in a profession he joined greatly, in order to pursue a higher calling in order to serve and protect the American people. His story is not identical, but similar to another man who served our country, and unfortunately made the ultimate sacrifice for the country he loved; Pat Tillman. Pat Tillman graduated from Arizona State University in 1997 after leading the Sun Devils football team to the Rose Bowl after an undefeated season. While at ASU Pat earned three consecutive selections to the Pac-10 All-Academic Football Team, a 1st team Academic All-American honor, and the NCAA’s Post-Graduate Scholarship for academic and athletic excellence. Pat earned a B.S. in Marketing, graduating Summa Cum Laude from ASU’s prestigious W.P. Carey School of Business, in three and a half years. After being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals and earning a very nice living, September 11th happened. Pat would put on hold his professional football career in 2002 and enlist in the Army, being assigned to 2nd battalion 75th ranger regiment. After a tour in Iraq, he would deploy to Afghanistan where we would pay the ultimate price on April 22 2004. Pat Tillmans death is one of the most covered deaths in the media due to his selflessness and loyalty to his country. Pat Tillman is an American hero, with statues portraying his warrior spirit, and with bases/camps in the middle of war zones named after him, he is an inspiration and example to service members everywhere. Pats life was short-lived, however from his death, and in his honor, the Pat Tillman foundation was created. The purpose of this foundation is to help military veterans and spouses who embody the same principles Pat had with the educational tools and support the need to reach their fullest potential as leader in the work place and community no matter how they choose to serve. On April 26th of this year, will be the tenth anniversary of PATs Run a 4.2 mile run put on by the Pat Tillman foundation in order to raise money and celebrate the life of Pat Tillman, and other service members who have paid the ultimate price for our country. My son recently returned from his first deployment in Afghanistan in November, however several of his brothers in arms did not. He has decided that he will participate in this years run, wearing his uniform and 40+ pounds of body armor, in honor of his fellow soldiers who were killed during their last deployment. I am writing you this email today to ask for your support in any way you seem fit. There are multiple ways in which you can support our armed forces, the Pat Tillman Foundation, and my son, SGT Daniel Urman. Below are several links to the Foundation home page for more information, to the See Dan Run team page where you can make monetary donations through his team to go towards the Pat Tillman foundation, and to the registration for the run itself. Currently in the works, is a possible post-run meet and greet lunch/dinner at a local restaurant where these sponsors will be able hang a sign or banner advertising their respective companies, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Pat Tillman foundation. Please feel free to forward this email to all of you friends, families, and co-workers and help my son raise money for a good cause supporting our military veterans!
