To whomever this may concern, members of the federation and The federation as a body. It is with great concern that i write this letter to you all in hopes of making sure we do the right thing when it comes to building up the Sierra Leone Music industry. Before i start i will like to commend all of us in coming together in moving forward in building our industry. I believe it is possible and that together with the right minds we can accomplish anything as a federation. In my mind this is what the definition of a music industry is: The music industry or music business consists of the companies and individuals that make money by creating and selling music. Among the many individuals and organizations that operate within the industry are: the musicians who compose and perform the music; the companies and professionals who create and sell recorded music (e.g., music publishers, producers, recording studios, engineers, record labels, retail and online music stores, performance rights organizations); those that present live music performances (booking agents, promoters, music venues, road crew); professionals who assist musicians with their music careers (talent managers, business managers, entertainment lawyers); those who broadcast music (satellite, internet and broadcast radio); journalists; educators; musical instrument manufacturers; as well as many others. So once this is established then we now have an official industry, which i believe is the goal of the federation. I believe that this federation is the pinnacle of our industry. i believe that it is the most powerful organization in moving forward with building this industry. i believe that this federation should be taken seriously not by our own selfish intentions but by making sure we make decisions that will make a difference. Right now the state of Sierra Leone music is broken. Our Djs are doing an award show without a proper structure in place for our industry. As a federation i expect us to fight against this event because it is not right. This event is a form of exploitation that we should not allow to take place in Sierra Leone right now until there is a proper structure for our industry. and if we as a federation allow this to go on i will be very sad to say that nothing good will ever happen to Sierra Leone Music. We should never see a sinking ship and jump in it. The problem i see with Sierra Leone Entertainment is the fact that every man is for there own. You cant just leave those who created the problem in charge of the solution. I dont feel like there is enough experience within this federation. As we know this so call industry is full of exploiters and this is one of the main reasons why we are always moving backwards in competing with the international scene. One minute there is an award show next minute there is a tour going on in the towns and villages, which is a good thing but not done in a prioritize manner. We always here in the News of how corrupt our so call industry is from the artists, to the Djs, to the promoters and so on. Nothing structural is in place on how to make sure we build this industry the right way. I feel like this is our only chance to get things together and if we dont act fast we will fail not only for us but generations to come. Everyone wants money these days which is not a bad idea but exploiting our industry is a terrible idea that should never be tolerated by this federation. I believe that this federation stands for hope in building our industry and many lives are depending on it so this issue of exploitation should not be taken lightly. WE ARE STILL WAITING TO SEE WHAT THE FEDERATION IS GOING TO DO.
