To you Hotep!!!! (Peace)!!!! May this e-mail find you in the best of spirits! Despite the media white out of todays anti-violence rally called the Funeral to Bury the Violence in Newark, NJ, there were over 500 people present for peace! The purpose of this event was to hold a massive city-wide symbolic funeral to magnify the impact of the senseless violence and the killings surging through the city. The Funeral brought together the victims of senseless violence and diverse members of the community with powerful messages of hope from community leaders and community -based organizations. This rally inspired healing and renewal in the people. But most importantly, the Funeral shed more light on the neglected disease of black on black violence terrorizing the African American community in Newark and in America! Big props to Do It All, the legendary Hip Hop artist from the group Lords of the Underground, Redman, Naughty by Nature, Rah Digga, Hakim of Channel Live, Ed Lover, 211 Community Impact, Newark Anti-Violence Coalition, FP YouthOutcry, 24 Hours of Peace, Anti-Industry Entertainment, Stop Shootin Music, West Ward Economic Development Corporation, Perry Funeral Home, Woody Home for Services, Chapels of Edan Funeral Home, J. E. Churhman Funeral Home, Cotton Funeral Services, Cushnie-Houston Funeral Home and Morticians Who Care. I wish I could list more Hip Hop artists, community leaders, community -based organizations, and clergy, but unfortunately, I cannot mention them today. They did not organize in solidarity with us. Respectfully, Bashir Akinyele -Newark Anti-Violence Coalition Member (NAVC) -Educator -Radio Producer 10/27/13 PS: I want to send a special thank you to the founders and leadership of Occupy Wall Street Movement (#OWS)!!!!! Our brother and sisters from #OWS showed strong unity by promoting the Funeral through all their social media for over a month and sending human support to the Funeral! Also big shoot out to Sister Erica Ford, the founder of I love My Life Movement. She came all the way from Queens, New York City to show solidarity with Newark, NJ. timothyeastman/activism/the-funeral-to-bury-violence-in-newark/
