✨⭐😇 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame. Psalm 25:1-3 When you think of an enemy putting you to shame, you might think of a time when someone put you down in front of others. It hurt, but not for long. You moved on, and so did everyone else. But there is another kind of shame you can’t so easily shake. There is an enemy you can’t so easily escape, an enemy within your gates. This enemy works around the clock to make your life miserable. Your enemy is you. There is the you that took the time for this devotion today, but you are certainly aware of another you that isn’t even remotely interested in such things, an arrogant you that is quick to see what others do wrong and slow to see your own faults, a you that doesn’t feel the need to read the Bible or pray. And talk about shame! If this you gets what it wants, you’ll end up far away from God, shamed and disgraced, now and forever. King David, the writer of this psalm, had plenty of dangerous enemies to contend with, clever men plotting to steal his throne. But of all the enemies David had to face, he knew that his greatest enemy was himself. He also knew who alone could help him. He wrote, “To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; in you I trust, O my God.” God is your helper, too. God has done for you what you could never have done for yourself. He has diverted all the shame of your sin away from you, and onto himself. Jesus took it to the cross. Your sin is forgiven. Every day you struggle against the you that wants no part of God. Again today, Jesus is here in God’s Word, providing forgiveness, comfort, and strength for the fight. Trusting in God, you are assured that “no one whose hope is in Lord will ever be put to shame.” Prayer: Dear Jesus, you have taken away the shame of my sin. Equip me to do battle against the enemy within. Amen.✨⭐😇🌜🌝☀🌞❤
