ToT Workshop for the Master Trainers Frontline officers (FLOs) such as Grama Niladharis, Samurdhi Officers, Midwives, Agrarian Development Officers, etc., of the North Central, Eastern and Northern provinces will receive intensive training to support community development activities in their respective areas under the FORWARD Project (Training for Frontline Officers Working to Actively promote Rural Development). The overall goal of the Project is to improve the quality of public services in the emerging regions through the training of the FLOs to develop their capacity to conduct community development activities The Project initiated a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for the Master trainers to strengthen their teaching techniques and facilitation fundamentals. The Master trainers will be important resource persons for the Project as they will in turn conduct ToT workshops at provincial levels. These trained staff then will be proficient to undertake the training of the FLOs at provincial level. The workshops were conducted in both Sinhala and Tamil languages. The Sinhala medium workshop took place from 29th June to 1st July in Anuradhapura and the Tamil medium workshop was held from 13th to 15th July in Vavuniya. A total of 45 members from the target areas of Northern, North Central, and Eastern Provinces participated in this workshop. High ranking officers of MDTU’s (Management Development Training Units) in Northern, North Central & Eastern Provinces too participated in these workshops. At the workshop, the participants learned about knowledge of training, skills of training, trainer’s ethics and brushed up their teaching and facilitating skills. They also discussed how they could contribute to the implementation of training programmes. Around 90% of the participants In both Sinhala and Tamil medium workshops said that the content of the workshop was useful for them. The next step is to conduct a subject matter ToT for the Master trainers based on the actual course menus developed by the Project. This training will be conducted soon!
