Tobi McPhails post about today marking 26 years since we said goodbye to our mom prompts me to mention it too. As Tobi says, this band of females who carry our moms genes, is never at a loss for words. And though DeeDee and I havent spoken in years, she shares this gift of gab.;) But humor me if you will. For the past two weeks Ive been teary. Ive felt raw and vulnerable. Ive felt uncertain and unsteady in things I rarely doubt. It dawned on me yesterday...exactly why. I believe our bond to our mother is like that of our bond to Mother Earth. Its so vital to our survival, that when shes gone on, and is beyond our physical reach, and the season of her passing returns, year after year, our physical bodies and our spirits feel the death as acutely as the day we last saw her face, stroked her skin. This love and this loss at this time of year, still makes me weep and my heart is broken all over again. And I believe that though these are my words, most others feel exactly the same way about your own mothers. So to my mom...I miss you still. I love you more deeply and more truly with each passing year. You raised strong women, who raised strong women, who are raising strong and fine men and women. And thats the greatest gift we can give to the world. xo
