Tobias Rieder hat seinen Trainer Dave Tippett überzeugt: Even - TopicsExpress

Tobias Rieder hat seinen Trainer Dave Tippett überzeugt: Even though he was drafted in the fourth round in 2011 by the Oilers, winger Tobias Rieder never played a game for the organization before he was traded to the Coyotes in March 2013 as part of a prospect swap that sent Kale Kessy to the Oilers. So a return to Edmonton didnt exactly register on his radar. It doesnt really stir anything up, he said. Rieders agent was actually the one to ignite trade talk after looking at the skilled forwards ahead of Rieder on the Oilers depth chart. They had so many young, skilled forwards, kind of like the same type of player like me, and they were really deep, Rieder said. So we thought Id get a better chance at another team, and I think it worked out well. What stands out most about Rieder in Tippetts eyes is his intelligence. Defensive awareness seems to be taking priority right now, Tippett said, but he expects Rieder to evolve as an offensive player. I dont want to compare him to this player but when you watch him on video, he does a lot of the same things that (longtime Dallas Star) Jere Lehtinen did and you know how I thought of Jere Lehtinen, Tippett said. Hes a smart player, and I think hell continue to get more comfortable on the offensive side making plays.
