Toby update: Our beautiful new rescue dog Toby is a complete gem. He is sweet, loving, thinks I hung the moon, and will do anything for cuddles. Unfortunately, hes also a dog with a past; hes found ways to let us know that hes terrified of being alone, that men have hurt him, that he expects to be kicked and hit with sticks. He is still very underweight and were having trouble getting him to eat enough. Hes also not safe around our cats or smaller dogs we encounter. Toby is learning fast- he knows his name, and sits and comes when hes called more often than not. Hes learning that toys are fun and knows his mat is home base. Hes completely housetrained and so far, no terrible chewing incidents! He saw a wonderful canine osteopath on the weekend who was able to help him move much better, and hes no longer sore in his neck and back end. She believes hes had many bones broken. This little guy is a real survivor, and its amazing to me that hes willing to trust again. Were still figuring out whether Toby is going to fit into our family the way we want him to- we have a lot to work on. I hope so, because I love him more with every day that passes. Its hard for me to take this one day at a time. But whether were his perfect forever family or not, Im so glad hes here to heal with us.
