Today 100 years ago, 29 June 1914, an event took place that rocked the world. The online magazine “The Atlantic” on his photography section “infocus” brings back these events in a 10 part serie. A serie about World War I, that went on for 4 years and ended on 11 November 1918. During these four years more then 16 Milj. people lost their lives. The editor Mr. Alan Taylor describes “On this 100-year anniversary, Ive gathered photographs of the Great War from dozens of collections, some digitized for the first time, to try to tell the story of the conflict, those caught up in it, and how much it affected the world.” The photos are nearly all in black and white with some early experiment in color. Some are extremely sharp and some vague due to the camera used. This theatlantic/static/infocus/wwi/ is the mean page from where you can click on the categorized series.
