Today 12/16, a new trecena begins, 1 Chicchan (Serpent). Ride the lightening. A trecena is a 13 day period with a particular energy focus that can be thought of as a wave, step pyramid, or the life cycle of a tree (seed, sprout, tree, fruit, seed). Beginning with 1 it builds up force to reach its ideal height/power on the 6th, 7th, and 8th days before becoming overpowering and descending to the 13th day to then repeat the cycle at 1 again with a new energy. The first day sets the tone and the 6th, 7th, and 8th days indicate how to utilize that tone to its fullest. The tone for this trecena and more is available @ jaguarsage What is the significance in following the Sacred Calendar? Following the Mayan Sacred Calendar, or Tzolkin, is called keeping the days. Tzolkin literally means line, count, or advice/explanation of days. Each day has a specific energy that comes to us from the Source (God, Universal Mind, Cosmic Consciousness.) The Maya believed that this energy comes to us from the Galactic Center visible in the night sky in the Milky Way Band. To align with the energy and intent of the day one becomes more universally conscious, little by little, as observation of the rhythm grows into knowledge, understanding, and practice. When a person is walking their path by uniting their personal energy in harmony with the energy of the day, a certain sense of well-being, lack of struggle, and oneness with (or knowing the Will of) the Source is obtained. Each day then becomes a blossoming, meditation, prayer, yoga, or form of worship, if you will. The actual Sacred Calendar itself was given that we may have a tool to keep track of these cycles and peer into the Wisdom of the Ages. Current Katun: 2 Ahau Kah Ah-haw Dec 21, 2012 - Jun 19, 2032 A Katun is a period of approximately 20 years (19.7). 13 katuns multiplied by a complete cycle 20 = 260 years, one full Mayan Calendar short count cycle. The characteristics of each Katun are seen as ruling or influencing the whole generation, politics, and history. According to the books of Chilam Balam, Katun 2 Ahau is seen as a period described as a strong dry wind that will halve his bread leaving only a small amount. It speaks of times of abundance and the coming of times of extreme lack/famine and/or drought. (Perhaps this also includes GMOs that are only partly food?) The poison of the serpent will descend, it is an epidemic. (The small pox epidemic that decimated the Maya was in a Katun 2 Ahau) However, on the positive side, this Katun ushers in the end of authoritarian order as the people unite to forward their causes seeking to improve their situations.
