Today 15th of August is 39th death anniversary of my grand father Mr. Ahmad Ullah Raanna (died on Friday, Aug 15, 1975). I request all in my circle to pray that May Allah SWT raise his honour in heavens and forgive his shortcomings (Amen). Just to share with you all a glimpse of my grand fathers character. He was a founding president of the Muslim Student Organization (MSO) in Srinagar Kashmir and graduated in 1944 from Siri Partab Collage (S.P Collage) Sirinagar University of the Punjab. He had to migrate to this part of Kashmir due to his struggle for Kashmir independence movement and he was allotted a large property in Rawalpindi worth billions now but he didnt accept and returned it. He was doing a job as division accountant in Forest Office but left the job as it involved bribery and there was no way he could avoid that. He finally became a teacher in English. He used to live at rent and when the late great leader Khursheed-ul-Hasan Khursheed (former president of Azad Kashmir and a class fellow of my father at Srinagar Amar Singh College) asked him to have a piece of land allotted to him, he took advice of the Maulana Sanaullah (Khateeb Jamia Masjid Bagh) that would is it permissible for me to accept this piece of land from Baitul Maal and would I be considered a Gaasib in the books of Allah SWT? (Maulana told me about this many years after my fathers death). Maulana advised him to take that piece of land as he most deserves it and then he took that. One more notable about him is that out of that piece of land, a neighbouring widow asked him that I dont have land, can you give me a piece of land, he gave him free of cost saying this land belongs to Allah SWT and Im just the user, so take it. He was a derwaish, he didnt leave any money or property behind him, but one of his brother had a multi million property in Islamabad in 1969 when the capital was under construction. That was his character. We used to have many more people like him in our society in early 70s but no more. I request you all who dare to read through all this to pray for his forgiveness and all people like him (Amen)
