Today 19th of March is the feast of San Giuseppe, Saint Joseph - TopicsExpress

Today 19th of March is the feast of San Giuseppe, Saint Joseph was, of course, the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the step-father of Jesus of Nazareth. Upon a typical St. Josephs Day altar, people place flowers, limes, candles, wine, fava beans, specially prepared cakes, breads, and cookies (as well as other meatless dishes), and zeppole. Foods are traditionally served containing bread crumbs to represent saw dust since St. Joseph was a carpenter. Because the feast occurs during Lent, traditionally no meat was allowed on the celebration table. The altar usually has three tiers, to represent the trinity. It is also tradition to wear red. St. Josephs Day is also the day when the swallows are traditionally believed to return to Mission San Juan Capistrano after having flown south for the winter. It must have been tough for a Jewish man to be married to the mother of Jesus, the son of the Almighty. I mean like how are you going to impress her? You make a table and chairs for her; and she says, big deal, you do know I gave birth to the savior of mankind. Cant we get some descent furniture? Joseph would come home after working all day and she is always going, Jesus, my son turned water into wine again, you cant even make a shelf that isnt crooked. No wonder all the statues of Joseph is with his head hanging low. Joseph as a carpenter often wore red that way when he cut himself there would be no blood stains. You dont expect the Mother of Jesus to be trying to get blood stains out do you.
