Today, 69 years ago ( July 18th, 1944 ) The local armed resistance from Meensel ( Belgium ) wanted to show the RAF pilot Teddy Blenkinsop, who was hiding at the farm of the Schotsmans family, what they were all about. He was invited to join them on a nightly raid performed by a group of 20 armed partizans, with the well know collaborator Glazemaekers as target. With this raid, members of the resistance from St. Joris-Winge, Meensel en Werchter wanted to engage Glazemaekers at home, led by Jules Cauwberghs and group G leader Hilair Gemoets. Explosives were placed on a wall of the house, but they failed to explode. In a swift decision, the armed men started to shoot, blasting doors and windows in to pieces by the hail of bullets they squeezed off ! After the action, they fled as quick as possible, together with Teddy, who was a spectator all the time. After this incident, they realised it had been a thoughtless action, to expose Blenkinsop into the open during a partizan action. Probably the vital error changing his destiny ?
