Today Alyssa got to have her hair washed! I brushed it out like I use to when she was little......and put it in a nubbin. The nurse before had it in a pony braid (we all KNOW that doesnt fly with Alyssa). Girlfriend will NOT stay in bed, keeps sitting up and using handrails to try to hurdle over. She hasnt been cleared from the collar yet and should even be moving that much. This is so HARD since she cannot communicate yet with us. Its so very frustrating. Im trying to contain my frustration, and anger, but its coming out on everyone else. All I want is to take her pain and discomfort away, and I know her dad feels the same. On a good note she is in the step down phase of ccu.......kind of a happy medium from ccu and regular bed. She will be put in a cardiac chair tomorrow, praying that goes well! We will be spending many, many future days here just trying to get our Alyssa back. She is completely off sedation, only on pain meds, but with a brain injury only time will tell what the future holds. She responds to specific tasks, like squeeze my finger or waive, but we need her to hold up two fingers it blink twice. I pray every night that tomorrow gets a little better and a little easier for her.
