Today, December 25, 2014 I came home from work and sat down with my daughter Qanani, 4 YO, who is trying to write her name and everybody elses last name and then she asked mine and that triggered my mental search for my paternal lineage names and who I am related to in Shashamane/ Gadab, Arsi, Borana and Jimma. My father, Sheikh Amae Elemo (AKA, Qabato in his native village), his three brothers Kallacho, Dilaamo, Lukko and his Sisters Guubane, Gatoo, Washo and my fathers mother Jaatane Kimoo whose descendants live in Wando- Genet area. In fact, my fathers side and his siblings make the majority of the population of the entire village of Borara, 5 KMs South-East of Shashamane. My mother, Jamila Sheikh Ibrahim Abba Gibo, was from Jimma, from the clan of Diggo Horo. Sheikh Ibrahim was a merchant and religious leader, just like my father, Sheikh Amae. They lived any where between Nagelle Borana, Dollo, Moyalle, Mega and Taltalle. They were mobile merchants, pioneers of Islamic Daiwa in the region, calling people to Islam and living the life of devout Muslims. My Maternal Grand mother, Elema Arganno, from Oditu clan was among the Borana women taken captives by the Somali invaders during the Italian occupation in the late 1920s and early 1930s, taken to Dollo area and later married to Muslim Merchants. Elema Arganno made a Journey from Dollo area as you can imagine to Taltalle because of the nature of the mobile merchants business and the Pastoralist way of life of Borana. Jamila, my mother, was born in a small village near mega. Here is what I was trying to teach my daughter Qanani, as I was trying to remember and imagine those who came to this world and lived before us hundreds of years ago, I mean my paternal lineage: Ibrahim Amae Elemo, Damaame, Mandoo, Marisaa, Kolbaaye, Bariisoo, Waaqo, Aleelu, Worasho, Weegee, Asaasumaa..... Horoo.
