Today I am frustrated with the state of political debate. Social issues are used to divide citizens, while the majority of either side refuses to address the core problem facing America. That issue, of course, is corporate money used to influence legislative decision making. The most common answer I hear to this point is, Well both sides do that. This is precisely the problem, and nearly every single issue stems from corporate influence. Individuals have trouble finding work because corporate donations allowed businesses to transfer their holdings offshore, penalty free, while selling their cheap foreign goods for a premium price in America. Global warming is a byproduct of legislation that is kept weak by corporate influence. Even the rise of militarized police can be traced back. Name an issue, and if you follow the paper trail you will find it all leads back to influence peddling. However, lets keep ourselves divided based on which party we vote for, while not acknowledging that both parties are nearly equally at fault in allowing our nation to be perverted by corporate wealth. Frankly the entire conversation makes me sick.
