Today I am grateful for peace. Peace is putting on pajamas when you’re seven in the dark of a bedtime room, hearing the lullaby of the dishwasher and the wordless hum of low voices rise and fall in the hallway as your belly fills with the well-being of food and safety. Peace is knowing who you are when other people laugh at you, cut you down or cut you off, point their fingers at you or behind your back. If you listen, you’ll realize they are really telling you what is wrong with them-selves. Peace is shaking hands with the ideas that make you angry and holding onto your truth -- without succumbing to that anger. Peace is the blessed ability to avoid the people and ideas that are hurting you. Peace is not being in denial that they exist, but choosing that your world will not harbor them. It may not seem like it right now - but darkness cannot continue to exist where light is being shed upon it. Peace is rejecting any world view not based on a respect for the sanctity of all life. The first and most important of all reactions to and sanctions against violence anywhere and at any time is the rejection of it as a means of human interaction. Peace is knowing that no matter what anyone or anything does to your person, your emotions, your property or your ideas – they can never begin to touch the essence of your being. Your soul is untouchable by anyone save yourself. Peace is knowing the most important action toward non-violence we can ever take is treating ourselves with love. And helping others do the same. Peace is knowing that when you can do nothing else -- you can send peace. Every good thought you think is a vibration that goes around the world ten times. Every bad thought you think affects your own cells. Peace is knowing you can choose… Today I am grateful for peace.
