Today I am most grateful for being able to work last night. I only - TopicsExpress

Today I am most grateful for being able to work last night. I only worked for 2 1/2 hours, but I WORKED! This is huge! I have been with my job for 27 years. Before I took this job my MO was to work a day job until I got a good gig and then quit. When the good gig ended I would find another day job. 27 years ago I vowed that this would be my last job. I have managed to work quite a few really good gigs and still keep this job. There was a 3-year period where I only worked 3 hours a week. When this whole cancer thang started my ability to work got all screwed up. We recently got a new GM. That really could have proven to be a disaster, but my co-workers stepped up. Spearheaded by James Porter and fully supported by Chris Cline and Tommy, all my shifts are covered. Not only are they covered but I can go to work anytime I want and the person covering me will go home. At first I didnt like the second clause of this agreement, thinking that I would somehow be taking a shift away from the person who is doing the solid of covering it. As Jim explained they are happy to get the time off. So I tried it last night. I went in at 4:30 and Jim went home. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for this and how empowering it is just to return to some semblance of routine. I worked! Today I have another full day planned. Genni is coming to get the cabinets. Pat Monahan is coming to re-install the drawers in the cabinet he rebuilt for me. My kitchen just might begin to return to a normal looking kitchen. Hell if all that gets done early enough I might go in for another short shift. My life, inspite of all the bumps and detours, looks like it might return to the boring mundane thang it was before all this started and I couldnt be happier! Thank you all!
