Today I am one month post-op and I have GREAT news. I went to - TopicsExpress

Today I am one month post-op and I have GREAT news. I went to see my awesome PCP today (have I mentioned how much I love him?) He saw the seroma and said he could aspirate it himself. I would have bet money he was going to refer me to someone. When I came in and the nurse checked my vitals, my blood pressure was low for some reason, 89/58. Usually my blood pressure will drop when I take my garment off, but I still had it on at this time. (this becomes important later) When I went in the room and removed my garment, I could feel the familiar feeling of the wooziness and just sat there to gather my bearings. He felt around and could tell where the pocket was. He said he was going to try my lower abdomen since the mons area is a little more sensitive. He had me lay on my side on the table. He sprayed the area with a numbing spray, and then did a numbing injection. He then put another needle in to pull out the fluid, but nothing would come out. So then, he had me stand, and did the same numbing routine right under my incision in the mons area. The fluid easily came then. The fluid he pulled out looked just like what was in my drain when I had it. As I was standing there, I started to get the sweats and feel kind of yucky. I asked the nurse if she had any juice or candy. She got me a snickers and I started to feel a little better while he finished up. He pulled out 57cc (6 tubes...or a little more than 1/2 of one the bulbs from my drain). It didnt hurt one bit!! They bandaged me up and then he went ahead and took a look at all of my incisions. He looked at an area in my thigh incision he was looking at last time and said I had some granulation tissue that he was going to treat. Granulation tissue is new connective tissue and tiny blood vessels that form on the surfaces of a wound during the healing process. He treated it with silver nitrate and was done. He said the rest of my incisions looked beautiful...no openings, no infections, healing very well! I was feeling on my belly and asked the doc if the hard stuff in my belly was part of the seroma. He laughed and said that was muscle. Hmmm...Ive never been able to feel my muscle before lol He said its hard to tell if and when the seroma could/would be back so he couldnt say when to schedule a follow up. He said if the wave comes back, come back in and hed drain it again. In the meantime, Im to keep up with the compression (Im wearing my garment and the tightest compression pants I have) and he recommended my getting a lymphatic massage this weekend (Dr. S said okay to this as well). The nurse said I was standing straighter and that my belly looked flatter than when she saw me a week ago. So that was good news. I am so very thankful for my PCP. Most people wouldnt touch someone elses work. Ive got to think of something I can do to thank him. I always fill out the surveys I get for him, but I need to at least send a thank you card or something. I got home after my appointment and took new pictures of my belly to send to Dr. Sauceda. Theres no more wave. Still some swelling, but the fluid is gone! There are pictures in the comments. Thanks for the care and support this week as I worked through this! The unknown is what tends to freak me out the worst so now that I know what to expect and have a plan of action if it comes back, I feel a lot better.
