Today I am thankful. I am thankful for the wonderful and caring staff at All Creatures who made a very difficult morning less difficult. I am grateful for 9+ years with a sweet, sweet lab named Coal who - as I said at least 3 times this morning - has been with me longer than my husband and I have been together. Im thankful that we were able to take Coal for breakfast at Wendys on his last morning with us. I am thankful for a husband who held me and prayed with me as we made one of the hardest decisions today. And I am thankful Coal is no longer in pain. Im also sad. I am sad that this morning I had to tell Ben that Coal was going to heaven. His response was, But hes my dog. How will we ever find the strength to answer these questions and inquiries from our children? I realize this probably seems melodramatic. I am not a big emotional person. It takes a lot for me to break. Today I am pretty broken. And one more thing Im thankful for... Im thankful that I believe all dogs go to heaven. At least, mine did this morning. I KNOW it.
