Today, I am thankful for my soldiers who have made me proud - TopicsExpress

Today, I am thankful for my soldiers who have made me proud because of their commitment to defending our freedom. I can still remember the day Brett told me that he was joining the Army. I was proud of his decision but as a mother my heart pounded heavy with the thought of sending my son to a foreign land to fight a foreign war. Twice, he went to Iraq and because of the grace of God and constant prayer was returned home to me. Saying goodbye to him was the most difficult part of the experience yet greeting him as he returned to that Savannah, Georgia field proud, tired, and a man who had grown to walk in the shoes of a soldier was a moment of relief, thankfulness to God and pride. My daughter Brooke also made the decision to fight and defend her country and the goodbye to my baby girl was very difficult as I watched her load a bus in a wheat field of Kansas on her way to Bosnia. Proud as I could be and frightful for her well being I prayed endlessly for God to return her to me. I can still remember her blonde hair as she took off her helmet and hugged me as I welcomed her home. There are other soldiers that have touched my life and that I pray for daily. Rob Smith, you are like my son and I pray for you every day and count the days until you no longer are called for a mission. Bambi, Dan, Ryan, Matt, Alan thank you for your service and dedication to our country and our freedom and Chris Hake, you gave all. I will always remember! And last but not least, my Dad the proud Marine! He loved his country and his family. I am thankful for all Veterans today!
