Today I am very frustrated and usually try and not go on a rant on facebook but here it goes....My frustration is for those who make fun of or make light of TRADITIONAL Marital Arts. September will mark two years since I walked into the doors of Complete Martial Arts and met Brandon Beach. I can honestly say it is not something I have regretted even once. Like most, an upsetting life experience lead me to join Martial Arts in hopes of learning some self defense and to better myself as an individual and that it has. Martial Arts is the only place I know where you can laugh, scream, cry and rejoice in one training session. What happens on the mat is something personal and what is accomplished is something that no one can ever take away from you. Many people find humor, have pre judgements and basically water down what we do. I can say this because I was once one of those people. People like that often havent been through a situation where they needed self defense but had no way of defending themselves. Often I hear comments about the fact that I drive from Polk County to Shelby for That martial arts thing or that self defense stuff or whatever it is Yes! I do and I try and makes classes 5 days a week if I am able to with a busy work schedule....Why you may ask? Because I dont want to be that person that needs self defense and again cant defend herself. I love myself enough to do what I can to protect myself and those I love and care about. One thing I have had to learn and be reminded of constantly is sometimes people just wont get it. However those very people will have to go through something to understand. My instructor says its like insurance....better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Im just really getting starting even at almost two years in but I know without a doubt I am exactly where I need to be and learning the things I need to make me better. I am privileged to be under Master Brandon Beach, a 4th degree black belt in Tang soo do and purple belt in Brazilian jiujitsu. Master Beach has the heart, knowledge and patience to work with individuals (Even like myself) who think Martial Arts is something they cannot do. I challenge everyone who has ever thought about Martial Arts or considered it to give it a try. For me, it was the one of the best decisions I have ever made....Dont make fun of something or someone who is doing this Art, especially when you havent A)walked in their shoes B)observed a class C) done your research.....That is all.
