Today I arrived from our family vacation and welcoming of the New Year. After a long period of reassessment and focus, I am back to continue to engage all in our community to achieve a greater good. So it is with great optimism that I have embraced our presidents’ executive order to resume relations with Cuba on a limited and somewhat primitive basis. This historic decision by our courageous president will at minimum allow those like me who vowed never to return to Cuba until our two governments agreed to normalize relations, to visit with relatives I have not seen in over 50 years. There are political implications which our government will have to develop, negotiate and oversee like they have done with Russia, Viet-Nam and China to name a few.
