Today I began to train in my new apprentice beekeeper. We were practicing hiving a package in northern climates. She has a pleasant demeanor, really enjoys the beekeeping tools, and doesnt flinch when the bees land on her. I told her I havent had many snowpeople approach me for apprenticeships until this year. She explained that with the extreme weather patterns caused by climate change, snowpeople are taking a greater interest in beekeeping. I asked her why she looks like she rolled around under a stand of pine trees. She explained that with all the polar vortex blasts this winter, even snowpeople have begun to grow fur to keep warm. By the end of our training session, she seemed to be sweating profusely. Although I was hopeful in the beginning, I have a feeling shes just not going to last... It was a great day to play outside.
