Today, I begin my annual 2-3 day goal-setting process for 2015. By the time Im finished, I will have a detailed 2015 Action Plan which will be the navigation map for my annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly goals. This is a process I have done at every year-end for the last 15 years and I credit this process for navigating me into the person Ive become today. With only a few days left before the beginning of the New Year 2015, this is the perfect time to plan for what you want to accomplish in 2015, where you want to be in your life professionally & personally, and why you want to accomplish these goals. Every year, I get emails, FB messages, and phone calls from colleagues asking for my advice on goal-setting. Here are my seven tips in goal-setting for 2015, whether youre doing it for the first time or you are an experienced goal-setter. 1. PLAN TO ACHIEVE, BUT DARE TO EXCEED!! THEN GREAT RESULTS YOU WILL SEE!!! Dont aim for just average goals and dont ask yourself how most people do it. Always aim high and set goals that will put you in a category of excellence. If you set only average goals, you will at best accomplish average results. So aim high and dare yourself to exceed those expectations. You will be amazed at the results youll achieve. 2. FEAR NOT YOUR AMBITION!!! Dont be afraid to set ambitious, big-dreaming, game-changing, are-you-kidding-me sized, eye-brow-raising, out-of-your-comfort-zone, aint-no-mountain-high-enough goals!!! AIM BIG with your goals and plan ambitiously!!! 3. ANSWER WHY YOU MUST ACCOMPLISH THOSE GOALS! You are most likely to accomplish the goals if you understand why you want to accomplish them. Setting goals where you dont have a specific motivating reason to accomplish the goal will make it less likely that you will accomplish it. Find a strong motivating reason why you must accomplish your goals, and you will achieve them or exceed them. 4. FOCUS ON OUTSTANDING GOALS; DONT FOCUS ON PERFECTING THE SPECIFIC PROCESS TO YOUR GOALS. There may be multiple ways to achieve your goals. Dont get bogged down on trying to find the perfect method to accomplish it. Use the method that works best for you. Remember that youre trying to accomplish a goal, not perfect a method which may or may not achieve the level of success that you want. Be open to trying new methods to accomplish your goals if the method youre currently using isnt working. 5. PLAN LIKE YOURE ON A MISSION!!! ITS ALL ABOUT YOUR VISION!!! Envision what life would be like if you accomplished your goals, especially the goals that youve put off for years! Then DECIDE that 2015 is your year to accomplish it. Plan like youre on a life mission and use your action plan like a navigation GPS system. After all, this is YOUR map to reach your 2015 goals! 6. BE SPECIFIC WITH YOUR GOALS. QUANTIFY AND PUT DEADLINES. If your goal is physical fitness, state the exact numerical fitness goals. If your goal is financial, state the exact financial goals. If your goal is educational, state the exact academic goal you want to accomplish. After that, put a deadline when youll accomplish each goal. You must put a deadline so you can hold yourself accountable to accomplishing each goal. 7. HAVE FUN WITH THE PROCESS!!! Play your favorite music in the background while youre goal-setting, go someplace thats out of your environment if youre too distracted in your current environment (such as a park, a waterfront, an atrium, a beach, a resort, a coffee house, a lounge, a library, etc.) Goal-setting is not suppose to be tedious or boring. Enjoy your goal-setting process and get excited. When youre finished setting youre goals, youll be excited for your game plan for 2015. HAPPY GOAL-SETTING, MY FRIENDS!!! DONT JUST HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR. ENVISION 2015 AS YOUR BEST YEAR EVER AND THEN PLAN FOR IT!!!!
