Today I enjoyed meeting with a good friend and colleague - my buddy coach and mentor - both personally and spin off definitely for both of my businesses. What came out of today for me what why I need a coach & mentor to work alongside me - we shared good conversation, a really nice lunch ( and under 500 cals for me too - healthy eating is working ) but also challenged me greatly on my procrastination and vision of what I want for me, my business (SLJ) and even my coaching focus. Wow I am worn out Jan Kearney - but its made me think on it all - and now I need to galvanise myself to be what I say and do what I suggest for others to do. But I read this article only an hour ago and damn me if it does not make just real sense - common sense one would nearly cry........ but something we all or many of us fall into the traps of doing. I am now back to looking at the clarity of my vision - getting it back to being - clear and specific but simple - I know what I am good at, I know what I excel and have knowledge and expertise at - working with women - all ages all walks of life all areas - young teenage girls & women, mums to be, new mums and mums of children all ages, career women, business women But most of all the -........................working with the more mature women (I am currently there myself heading towards 50 years of age - 49 next birthday and wondering omg how did that happen lol - flushes and all ) or women who are more mature and found themselves made redundant in their later careers, kids leaving home, feeling a bit lost neglected and also feeling a bit redundant themselves personally - and possibly looking for new directions, to start up a new career, their own business but feeling a bit invisible in the medley of all those around them. Today it made sense - I work best at Life skills, personal development, and raising women s aspirations for themselves - all ages yes - previously youth worker, youth work trainer / educationalist, coach & mentor - now using all those skills, years of experience, knowledge, passion and expertise into my work with Girls and Women - making the right choices for myself to work with girls and women to make the right choices for themselves. So why is the article relevant - guess what I have been in for a bit and making mistakes on. 1. Trying to do it all. 2. Trying to go it alone. 3. Failing to do enough research - back to basics it is and back to discussing with research groups needs and markets. 4. Not having a clear vision - having clarity, being simple, clear and specific. 5. Analysis paralysis - going round and round in circles rather than just clearing the path and building a new road - being paralysed and doing nothing. So a bit of work to be done but getting started is just the first step. Honesty and reality check done, action plan outlined and timescales set for accountability set in place. Shattered but been a good day - :)
