Today, I finally ended a PR streak. And not a good one. Today made it 77 days since I last touched a barbell. This is the longest streak that I have gone since starting Crossfit 5 years ago. Not even during the shoulder scare of 2011 did I go this long. And whats my excuse? Injury? Family emergency? No, just life. Work got busy, kids schedule got busy, had some nagging aches and pains, and suddenly I realized that it had been months, MONTHS, not weeks since Ive been to the box. Today that streak ended, and I made it back home. And I hope never to beat this PR. Here are some tips on what to do for those of you who havent been to the box in awhile: 1) just go to the box. dont try to figure out a good schedule that works. dont worry that you are out of shape. just go. 2) if you cant make it to the box, at least do something. run, skip, hop...whatever, just keep moving. you can do a makeshift wod anywhere. Heres one: max burpees in 1 minute for 3 rounds. It is an ass kicker and you can do it anywhere. In fact, stop reading, and do it now. 3) when you do make it to the box, look at the WOD and take 60% of the weight listed. Believe me, just do it! I know you want to get back into the swing of things, and sure you feel rested. You will thank me later. 4) warm up and stretch more than you are normally used to. And then warm up and stretch some more. 5) talk to your coach/trainer; hopefully you remember their name. you can discuss how to modify the WOD that makes sense. 6) repeat step 1 go make some sweat angels while you are there. glad to be back home. thanks to Frank Schaumkel Mangisi and Audra Soltis for continuing to remind me to come back.
