Today I graduated from the first 6 week Marine Corps Officer Candidates School program. I have a surreal feeling of accomplishment and pride for what we went to, balanced by a huge respect for the history and legacy of the Marines and all those that have sacrificed and served their country. I am humbled by the fact that next summer I will be back in virginia for an even more physically demanding 6 weeks of training before I am ready to be commissioned as an officer. There has grown within me the feeling of being so unworthy of becoming a part of such an elite group of men and women, and that feeling drives us to push ourselves harder, to bleed and sweat more to try an earn our place among the Marines. I thank God for the strength to make it through, I thank my wife for her unwaivering support, and I thank every Marine who spent 6 weeks with us mentoring (and yelling at) us. I am excited for this year of rest and preparation before slaying the beast again next summer with the brothers I have inherited through this one.
